Meet: Pavel Haas Quartet

Meet: Pavel Haas Quartet

With great delight and pride, we would like to introduce this year’s ensemble in residence, the Pavel Haas Quartet, formed by Veronika Jarůšková and Marek Zwiebel / violin, Šimon Truszka / viola, and Peter Jarůšek / cello.

One might ask. Where are our pride and delight coming from? Well, you can be the judge of that yourself; the halls and churches in Austerlitz, Mikulov, Kurdějov, Kyjov, and Tišnov will be added to the ever-growing number of illustrious halls across Europe, in which the outstanding Pavel Haas Quartet has performed. The list speaks for itself: Musikverein in Vienna, Philharmonie de Paris, Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Konserthuset Stockholm, and Wigmore Hall in London. If Europe’s best halls are not enough to spike an interest, Taiwan, South Moravia, South Korea, or North America are all destinations the ensemble will visit this year.

The quartet is named after the excellent Czech composer, Pavel Haas. Pavel Haas Quartet has been adding prestige to his legacy for the last twenty years, and his work is starting to receive the flowers it deserves. The ensemble is widely recognized for its rich and colorful sound, almost infectious enthusiasm, and brilliant sense of harmonical interplay. They have been performing in the world’s most esteemed concert halls and received five awards from the Gramophone Awards, among many other accolades.

The Pavel Haas Quartet will perform five different programmes. So where can you meet these brilliant artists during our Festival?

The Ceremonial opening concert of the Concentus Moraviae and Austerlitz days 2026 will take place on 28/5 in the stunning Historical hall of the chateau in Austerlitz.

The next two concerts will take place in Kurdějov, 31/5 and Mikulov, 1/6. The quartet will perform a selection from Dvořák’s Cypresses, and then Mark Zwiebel will switch with the virtuoso pianist Boris Giltburg to play Piano Quartets by Brahms.

In Tišnov on 8/6, the ensemble will be doubled. Four skilled artists will perform the legendary Octet from Franz Schubert alongside the Pavel Haas Quartet: Karel Dohnal on clarinet, Tomáš Františ on bassoon, Přemysl Vojta on French horn, and Petr Ries on double bass.

The five concert series will conclude in Kyjov on 10/6. A reunion with a past violist and founding member of the ensemble, Pavel Nikl, will allow the Quintets from Brahms and Dvořák to be played.
