Purgatio
or With Dante to Paradise
Multimedia project; compositions from European medieval codices and manuscripts framed by texts of Francis of Assisi and Dante Alighieri
Tenor Martin Prokeš and bariton Marek Šulc are the core of Kchun. Starting from the human voice they are in search for Heaven. For their project Purgatio they work together with video artist Rudolf Živec. Starting from Dante‘s Divina Commedia they dive into a musical evocation of the idea of purgatoria, the notion of being cleansed to be admitted to Heaven, or not. Music from the Codex Las Huelgas, Jacopo da Bologna , Johannes de Florentia and other guides them on their spiritual search.

Gaelic Songs and Dances from the 17th and 18th century
Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien always manage to bring new life into a concert tradition. Their musical visit to Celtic lands, The High Road to Kilkenny, combines refined, ‘highbrow’ pieces along with an entertaining repertoire of songs in Gælic and dances from the Irish Baroque. This music bears in it the mark of an insular poetry and a turbulent history. François Lazarevitch went back to original texts and collections of the 18th and 19th ceuries to find lullabies, minstrel songs and hymns to nature of extreme beauty. Combined with his personal charm it guarantees an exceptional concert experience.

Interview of traditional Arabic scales of maquam, Indian ragas and works of three baroque french master
The more than extraordinary Belgian-Tunisian singer Ghalia Benali likes to blend various musical traditions, much like the Austrian viola da gamba player Romina Lischka. The two discovered they shared a passion for compositions for viola da gamba by Marin Marais and his mysterious teacher, Mr de Sainte-Colombe’s. They mix this music with dhrupad, the oldest genre in Hindustani classical music and with melismatic pieces inspired by the adhan, the muezzin’s call to prayer and recollection in the Islamic world. With this concert they encourage you to contemplate and meditate.

The fame of Jean Rondeau raised exponentially these last years. Luckily there’s more to it than clever marketing making use of his status of bad boy with the funky haircut. Rondeau fell in love with the harpsichord at the age of five and has been searching for the essence of the instrument ever since. His interest in jazz and improvisation only enriches his interpretations of scores. This time Rondeau tackles French music by Jean-Philippe Rameau, François Couperin and Pancrace Royer. Adventures lie ahead, for sure.

Chit chat with the music
Jean Rondeau and Thomas Dunford became known as so called Early Music Youngsters, the enfants terribles of the scene. Fact is that they tackle music by Marin Marais, Jean-Philippe Rameau, father and son Forqueray and many others with a freshness that makes one rediscover this music in an exciting manner. Their chit chat with the muses is never without a purpose and they always strives for excellence. Early music has rarely sounded so modern.

Seven days at Charles University
The famous Schola Gregoriana Pragensis takes us on a musical trip to the Prague University between 1370 and 1450. They let us hear how seven days at university might have sounded in these times. Result is a varied picture of official liturgical music, spiritual work made by young clerics and by students of music theory. But also rather entertaining music which was nevertheless connected to liturgy. One of the historical documents that inspired this program ist the charter of the so-called Reček dormitory of the Charles University of Prague, founded in 1438. A liturgy for students that’s worth a discovery.

Jazz and improvisation with a fruity taste
Anna Fusek, artist in residence of Concentus Moraviae 2020, is not afraid to cross musical borders. With her quartet La Cosmologie de la Poire -The Cosmology of a Pear – she shows that she can take the art of improvisation to the next level. Starting from early music and from own material they spread pure musical joy. A concert with the taste of a bittersweet pear.

Unplugged. Early pop songs
John Dowland, Johann Hieronymus Kapsberger, Tarquinio Merula ad.
Especially for Concentus Moravia one of the Ladies of early music, Raquel Andueza joins forces with Pierre Pitzl and his Private Musicke to show the pop-song quality of early Italian and English 17th century songs. Johannes Hieronymus Kapsberger, Tarquinio Merula, John Dowland, … they all are not only names from the past, but mainly composers of music that still speaks to us. With the heavenly voice of Raquel Andueza and a mixture of ukulele, banjo, theorbe and electric guitar the idea of „early music unplugged“ aims directly at your heart.
